What prompted this project

The goal of this project was to redesign and modernize the alarm configuration workflow used by industrial operators. Their current toolset relies on outdated, fragmented applications—an offline editor tool, a separate drawing application, and a developer platform—resulting in inefficiency, slow iteration, and poor collaboration.

My role

I worked on creating a unified, web-based platform that brings all configuration, editing, visualization, and implementation workflows into one environment. This reduced friction, improved consistency, and enabled real-time collaboration across teams.

THE PROBLEM

The current process for alarm configuration was outdated and inefficient.

"Drawing mimics (digital blueprints) can take up to 6 hours."

"We use desktop applications to conduct our work."

"Configuring just one alarm system (for one ship) requires different applications."

"Collaborating is challenging since everything most tasks are done offline."

"Procedures were timely."

A cloud-based portfolio of each vessel increases work efficiency by consolidating all needed tools onto one application as well as increases configuration database visibility for all team members.

Since each vessel, with its unique alarm configuration, is maintained by a shipyard, it made sense to organize the configurations into folders for easier access.

Final design

The final application acts as a centralized database of alarm-configuration portfolios, ensuring all users can access the most up-to-date information in real time.
